HISTORY fires students' curiosity and imagination, moving and inspiring them with the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past. At Key Stage 3 students first find out about the ways in which people's ORDINARY LIVES AND BELIEFS have changed through time. This is followed by investigations of the development of POLITICAL POWER AND PROTEST in Britain from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century and the changing nature of CONFLICT AND CO-OPERATION between countries. This thematic approach will enable students to develop a sense of period and to build a secure chronological framework of the past. At Key Stage 4 students will learn about the development of MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH from the Ancient World to modern times and focus in-depth on WEIMAR AND NAZI GERMANY, 1919-1945. In addition, Controlled Assessment takes in the development of medieval castles with particular emphasis on Skipton Castle, North Yorkshire.
The study of GEOGRAPHY stimulates an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. It helps young people make sense of a complex and dynamically changing world. At Key Stage 3 (CONTENT TBC) At Key Stage 4 Units of study include: Dynamic Planet, People and the Planet and Making Geographical Decisions.
