Acceptable Use Policy
The individual user area is the responsibility of the owner, including any 3rd person usage (do not allow others to use your user area, or your password). The system is provided for use by pupils to support their education, and by staff to enhance their professional activities (including teaching, research, administration and management). Users are expected to respect the property of others, in particular data held on the school’s computer systems.
The school reserves the right to examine or delete any files held on its computer systems and to monitor any Internet sites visited. ALL INFORMATION HELD ON THE SCHOOLS COMPUTERS IS NOT PRIVATE and may be inspected at any time by any of the school’s staff.
The following are not permitted:

Sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures.

Using obscene language in any Internet Publication, e-mail or other computer file.

Harassing, insulting or attacking others.

Damaging computer systems or networks.

Violating copyright laws.

Knowingly using another persons user area or internet/e-mail log-in.

Amending folders, work or files of other users.
-
Intentionally wasting resources.
-
Accessing systems without authority or permission.
-
Deliberately introducing computer viruses onto a school system.
-
Accessing material that is considered unsuitable or introducing such material onto school systems.

Employing school systems for commercial purposes.

Theft of equipment.

All use of the school’s computer systems is not private, so both pupils and teachers are not to put sensitive files on them.

Posting anonymous messages and forwarding chain letters.
The misuse of school’s computer systems (specified above) may result in the withdrawal of users rights to use the school’s computers, or may result in the Police or authorities investigating certain incidents.
If you witness any misuse or abuse of the school’s Internet and computer systems you MUST report it to a member of the school’s staff immediately.
Internet Publications
The Data Protection Act applies to use of the Internet, Internet publications (web-sites), and to e-mails where information about individual is used or published in any way. Staff and students must comply with the four Data Protection Principles. To comply with these principles staff and students must where appropriate:

Have parental consent before any information concerning them is published on the Internet. They must not publish information concerning other people without the other parties consent.

Ensure that all information for publishing is relevant, accurate, kept up to date and is held no longer than is necessary. Web-Pages should be regularly reviewed to ensure that data is correct and up to date.

Ensure that they act within the law and within the school’s statuary powers when using, disclosing or publishing information, e.g. Common law duty of confidentiality must be observed when considering whether to disclose information or not. If in doubt staff and students should seek advice from the ICT Department or from Senior Management.

Be aware that individuals are entitled to have a copy of information that is held about them on computer, and this includes information contained in e-mails. Libel and Defamation laws apply to e-mail and Internet Publications.
